Medical Leadership and Experience

Jay Smith, MD, serves as Medical Director of Thryv Medical, providing physician leadership and clinical oversight for the practice. A Georgia native, Dr. Smith was born in Atlanta and raised in Buford. He graduated with honors from Georgia Tech before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. Smith completed his residency training at Harvard in Boston before returning to Georgia, where he built his career in Emergency Medicine. His experience in acute care has provided a broad clinical foundation and a practical approach to evaluating patients, managing risk, and making evidence-informed medical decisions.

Physician Leadership

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Smith has held leadership positions within organized medicine, including serving as president of his state specialty organization and as an executive board member of the Medical Association of Georgia. His work has included physician advocacy, healthcare policy, and efforts to improve the delivery of medical care across the state.

A Personalized Approach to Medicine

Dr. Smith helped establish Thryv Medical around the idea that medical care should account for more than symptoms or whether a laboratory result falls within a reference range. Effective care requires understanding the patient, identifying relevant clinical factors, measuring progress, and adjusting treatment when appropriate.

As Medical Director, he helps guide Thryv's clinical standards and medical oversight across its services, supporting an approach that prioritizes appropriate patient selection, individualized treatment, ongoing monitoring, and responsible clinical decision-making.

Rooted in Georgia

Dr. Smith and his wife live in Buford, where they are raising their five children. His professional career and medical leadership remain closely connected to the community and state where he grew up.
